UGG -Tom Brady

UGG Australia announced that it is partnering with NFL superstar Tom Brady of the New England Patriots to launch its first men's marketing initiative. The multi-year collaboration between the three-time Super Bowl champion and the brand will include Brady's casual footwear as well as select outerwear and accessories. UGG Australia will feature Brady in its global multimedia marketing initiative beginning with the fall 2011 collection.

"This partnership marks a new season for UGG Australia, and Tom Brady is the ideal first endorser for the brand," said Deckers Outdoor Corporation Chairman and CEO Angel Martinez."He embodies the stylish casual attitude that is at the foundation of every product we make, and is as much a style icon off the field as he is a playmaker on it."

Since 1978 when an Australian named Brian Smith first brought the high-quality sheepskin boots worn by surfers to the United States, UGG Australia has expanded its product offerings to include a full range of men's cold weather boots, slippers and casual shoes, as well as outerwear and men's accessories. In recent years, the brand history has been eclipsed by the phenomenal success of its women's business. UGG Australia's women's products include a broad assortment of footwear including boots, casuals, slippers, handbags, outerwear, and accessories.

At the time of Deckers Outdoor Corporation's acquisition in 1995, sales of the brand were $17 million. In the fifteen years since, UGG Australia has expanded both its production and distribution significantly, adding new products and new lines, including a broad assortment of footwear, outerwear, handbags and accessories, and opening 25 company-owned UGG Australia retail stores worldwide. With sales in 2010 expected to exceed $800 million, UGG Australia has been recognized as one of the biggest success stories in the footwear industry in recent decades.

"Given the global phenomenon that is UGG Australia's women's business, it's easy to forget that we started as a men's brand among California surfers," said UGG Australia President Constance X. Rishwain."Collaborating with Tom gives us the unique opportunity to create new energy around our men's product and launch our first marketing campaign targeted to the male consumer."

UGG Australia will launch the men's marketing campaign with its first athlete endorser in the fall of 2011 with a global campaign. Brady will also consult on product inspiration for future seasonal collections.

"I have worn and loved the UGG brand for a long time," added California native Tom Brady."This collaboration gives me an opportunity to work with a leading global brand with a great history and a true vision for the future of its men's collection. It's an exciting time to be part of the UGG Australia team."

Deckers Outdoor Corporation is the premier lifestyle marketer that builds niche brands into global market leaders by designing and marketing innovative, functional and fashion-oriented footwear developed for both high performance outdoor activities and everyday casual lifestyle use. Teva, SimpleShoes, UGG Australia, TSUBO, and Ahnu are registered trademarks of Deckers Outdoor Corporation.

ways to clean your shoes with little money

First step- Generously wet the stain using a wash cloth. Do not over saturate it. Just enough water for the material in the shoe to suck it up.
Second step- Take a paper towel and soak up the stain. Just like you would an animal urine stain on the carpet.
Third step- Place a small sprinkle of baby powder onto the stain. Allow the powder to remain on. The powder will give your shoe a nice smell.
Fourth step- This is where the teabag comes in place. Grab 2 teabags, make a small teeny tiny slit in each one. Place onto the stain. Spritz the shoe with a water bottle.
Fifth step- To keep the teabags in place, put a rubber band around the shoe and teabag. Place a plastic bag over top, and allow the shoes to dry overnight.
The next day remove everything. The stain should be gone. To keep them fresh smelling you can also use Fabreze, or your favorite essential oil.

General Cleaning Rules-how to clean you ugg for good protect

Do your Ugg boots look dirty and worn out? Here are some simple methods for all fabrics of Uggs that will have them looking good as new in no time!
Step

General Cleaning Rules

  1. 1
Limit your Ugg use. This will prevent having to clean them as regularly. Any areas where they can be soaked, such as puddles and streams, should be avoided. Also avoid wearing Ugg boots anywhere that they might be scratched, such as hiking trails, as the leather is soft and will scratch easily and permanently.
  2. 2
Clean the boots by hand. It's often that the glues that secure soles, ornamentation, very thin leather parts or linings that may not be able to withstand soaking.
  3. 3
Test for color fastness. Use a dampened white cloth towel. If the color comes off easily, you should be aware that the entire article will "bleed" dye onto other areas of the item.
  4. 4
Dry away from heat. Ugg boots can be dried over a boot holder (hanging upside down) in a warm room and away from direct heat. Do not put your Ugg boots next to the fire or heater to dry. If you do not have a boot hanger, stuff them with paper towels, a rolled-up towel or newspaper to help them retain their shape. Leave to dry for at least 12 hours.
  5. 5
Brush into top shape again. Once dried, use a lint brush, nubuck brush, soft cloth or a suede brush and gently brush the natural line back into the boots. This will also pick up any fluff that may have dried on during the washing process.

Cleaning Suede Ugg Boots

  1. 1
Use a suede eraser. Gently go over the water marks and other stains that have built up on the boots.
  2. 2
Dip a soft cloth into cool water. Wring it out. Go over the suede and make sure you have uniformly maintained the moisture in the boot color.
  3. 3
Use specialty soap. Murphy's Oil soap works best on suede show. Take a pea-sized amount and apply it to the cloth. This can then be applied evenly over the boots.
  4. 4
Rinse your cloth and go over the boot's surface.
  5. 5
Pat the suede dry using paper towels. Make sure all of the excess water is absorbed.
  6. 6
Air dry your boots overnight. Do not put them directly under the sun or in a heated environment.
  7. 7
Go over your boots with a suede brush the following day.
  8. 8
Apply water and stain repellant. Use a dry cloth afterwards.

Cleaning Sheepskin Uggs

This method also applies if you are trying to clean a pair of knit uggs.
  1. 1
For minor instances of moisture absorption, talcum powder can help soak away water and prevent discolouration.
  2. 2
Every once in a while, more maintenance may be needed. Create a cleaning mixture. Add two parts hot water and one part white vinegar into a bowl. It is recommended however, to use approved shampoo cleaners to avoid preventable damage.
  3. 3
Soak a sponge with the mixture. Going from top to bottom, work the sponge in a circular motion over the boots.
  4. 4
Use a soft toothbrush. If there are areas which still have stains after using the water/vinegar mixture, add some to the toothbrush and go over those areas.
  5. 5
Rinse the boots using a sponge and distilled water. Pat the suede dry using paper towels.
  6. 6
Air dry your boots overnight. Do not put them directly under the sun or in a heated environment.
  7. 7
Go over your boots with a suede brush the following day.
  8. 8
Apply water and stain repellant. Use a dry cloth afterwar

Tips

  • Fine sandpaper, or a nail brush can be used to remove more stubborn stains.
  • There are products specifically designed to clean and Deodorize your ugg boots. If you prefer to use one of these, follow the instructions on the label. The ugg brand sells sheepskin cleaner and conditioner.
  • To dry the boots more quickly, they can be stuffed with newspaper. However, to prevent the ink from transferring to the inside of the boot, blank newsprint should be bought at an art supply store.
  • Keeping your toenails trimmed might better protect the inner lining of your boots, especially if you don't usually wear socks.

Warnings

  • Never use a hairdryer or tumble dryer to dry Ugg boots.
  • Do not store Ugg boots when they are damp. This encourages mildew growth.

Things You'll Need

  • Vinegar and water
  • Leather cleaner or specified brand cleaner and conditioner
  • Soft cloth or sponge
  • Water resistant or stain-repellent spray (or both)
  • Drying stand for boots, paper towels/rolled-up towel or newspaper
  • Lint brush, nubuck brush, suede brush or soft cloth

Sea(from some one)i just like the sea
The sea water is the bright incomparable sky-blue, the sodium hyposulfite is steady like spring early morning Xihu is same.Occasionally the breeze, only blew certainly the thin certainly thin thousands of clear small wrinkle, this caused according to expose to the sun sunlight of under the first month of summer, the golden light bright water surface appeared warm Xiu to be encouraging.I ever have not seen that beautiful sea! news about ugg shoes from other sites

Many people questioned the aesthetic of the boot (our Aussie friends think we're crazy for wearing footwear they see as slippers on the street), but having the celebrity endorsement of big names like Kate Moss drove sales sky high.

'Now everyone and their mother has a pair. They are undeniably a wardrobe staple, but the ubiquitous Ugg boot is no longer a style statement.

'Rather it's a pair of comfortable boots you might pop to the shops in - and you'd be hoping you wouldn't bump into your chicest friend.
Are we over Uggs? Sales of the Australian boots have fallen 31 per cent this year
'As with any trend, unless it evolves, it will die. For the Ugg sheepskin boot to make a comeback now it would take time or a total reinvention - and I'm not sure even Jimmy Choo could bring them back to life now.
'Saying that, Ugg have plenty more styles to fall back on - from very chic biker boots to heeled knee boots - so the Ugg brand is not under threat just because the sheepskin boot is no longer a trend item.'
The sheepskin boot's image wasn't helped by other bad publicity, such as doctors commenting that the shoes were bad for the feet because their unstructured design offered no support, and a judge at a recent hearing in Manchester Crown Court who ruled the footwear was unsafe to drive in.
Men will be delighted to hear the shoes are falling out of favour as in a survey conducted by the website MSN, they were voted as one of the top 10 items men don't like women to wear.
Writer Martin Daubney admitted in the Daily Mail earlier this year that he hates to see his wife Diana in the 'sexless footwear'.
He said: 'There’s never there been more sexless footwear than the Ugg, which should be renamed the Urgh. I don't know one man who likes them. Di's Ugg boots are the yang to the ying of the zipped Gucci heels she used to wear.'
Ugg have tried to boost sales of their soft boot by branching into other areas including bridal wear.
Earlier this year they launched the 'I Do' line - a three-piece capsule collection including a white sequin-studded boot, a silver suede boot with a rhinestone button, and a white fluffy flip-flop.

Ugg tall Boots Discount For Women Man Cheap Sale | Classic Ugg Short Boots Sale Cheap Uk

One of its biggest bugbears has been counterfeits, but the company that owns the Ugg footwear brand is still managing to find more than a comfortable footing in China.

While the counterfeit fleece-lined boots have undoubtedly dented the company's bottom line, demand for the real thing is helping it conquer heights that make its footwear seem more like sturdy mountain boots.

Deckers Outdoor Corp first dipped its toes into the Chinese market in a joint venture four years ago but is now going it alone with a direct subsidiary.

A joint venture with Stella International Holdings Ltd for sales and distribution of Ugg footwear in China ended in April, and the company set up the subsidiary in Beijing, with plans to open a satellite office in Shanghai this year.

"It was the right way for us to enter the market, with a partner that really understood the market," says Pete Worley, president of Deckers Asia Pacific, "but it was never a plan to be forever."

Market success boots the bugbears away

The maker of fashion-oriented outdoor, athletic and casual products based in Coleta, California, felt it was time for it to have more control of the brand in the marketplace after it had found its feet in China.

In Shanghai, unveiling the new autumn collection said to have been inspired by New York, Worley says Deckers plans to have 20 stores in China by the end of this year, based on the current 13 stores.

"China contributes a very small percentage at the moment, but we are roughly doubling our business here year-on-year since we entered the market with one store in Beijing and another in Shanghai in the first year (2008).

"China has the potential to be the equal of our US business in terms of percentage of global business in the next five years."

Among the company's expansion plans, it will launch the Chinese version of its website to cash in on the increasing propensity of Chinese to buy online, and will introduce two other brands, Teva and Sanuk, to the market.

"Ugg is by far and away our most successful brand today, which represents 85 percent of our total global business that reached $1.38 billion in 2011," Worley says.

Before last year, Ugg contributed to as much as 88 percent of the company's turnover, he says.

However, both the Teva brand, which grew 22 percent last year, and Sanuk are beginning to show great power now, so it is time to introduce them to the Chinese market, he says.

The subsidiary is also working with the brand team in the global headquarters in California to create products specifically for China to take advantage of Chinese consumers' attraction to the brand.

Yet there still is that threat of counterfeiting. Worley says that as a result of aggressive legal action in the past couple of years, many counterfeiters have been put out of business.

In May, Deckers Outdoor Corp announced it had won two cases against 3,007 websites based in China selling counterfeit Ugg Australia products. An Illinois Federal court ordered a permanent injunction against the defendants and awarded Deckers a combined $686 million in damages.

Since last year, Deckers has filed six lawsuits that have resulted in the transfer of more than 6,000 domains and the freezing of $1 million in linked financial accounts.

In addition to lawsuits, Deckers has taken action against more than 23,000 sites and has had 19,000 links removed from search engines.

"This is not a problem that is limited just to the Ugg brand, but also other US and European luxury brands," Worley says.

But Deckers, founded in 1973, has other problems to contend with. One of these is how to expand its products by competing with many other well-known brands with their spring and summer series, says Ren Guoqiang, a partner of Roland Berger Strategy Consultants, who specializes in consumer goods.

Chinese consumers' recognition of Ugg seems to be limited to the traditional classic sheepskin boots, Ren says.

Market success boots the bugbears away

Women's boots are also products of the Ugg brand. [Photo/China Daily]

"It was a fashion brand three to four years ago when it began to be popular following the trend among Western stars. However, when the fashion faded and people were just buying them for winter warmth, a problem began to emerge."

By setting up a subsidiary, the company is showing its determination to gain overall control of its finance and marketing in the Chinese market, Ren says.

Two of Deckers' other problems are how to educate people that the brand is more than just the classic boot and how to define fashion for the brand.

Some suggest that the company's dependence on Ugg is no bad thing, and Ren says building a flagship brand and gaining some experience first is what most multi-brand companies aim to do.

"The key problem is that it has to prove that Ugg is not transitory, but an evergreen tree with many other nice goods. After that, the company can pay more attention to other brands."

Ren says the increasing willingness of Chinese consumers to spend big means they are willing to buy authentic overseas brands.

And Ugg, priced at between $200 and $250 and targeted at urban, fashion-conscious men and women from 25 to 35, may seem like an affordable option for those attracted to foreign logos.

"We don't consider ourselves a luxury brand in the same way you might look at Gucci or Prada," Worley says. "We prefer the term affordable luxury. But we are about comfort and stylishness."

In the new collection, one of Deckers' main products, blue sheepskin boots covered with blue glitter, has a more urban feel than boots in previous collections. That can be put down to the city influence, but it nevertheless has many familiar Ugg traits and is easily recognizable.

Together with the new men's collection, they signify the company's efforts to impress customers that the brand is a fashion leader.

"We know that the awareness of our brand in China is very high," Worley says, "but in the market we still have to provide new styles, every-season products, and to move consumers beyond their perspective of Ugg as just the iconic boot."

In the company's efforts to achieve that aim, the brand now puts out a spring collection every year. It has also developed an Italian-made collection, more luxurious and upmarket, for men and women.

In addition, Worley sees big growth opportunities for the men's product.

"The brand really began as a men's brand in California, but over the years the classic boot really took off in the women's side of the business. Men want the same kind of luxurious product - that is, comfort with premium style."

ugg sales

NEW YORK -- No love for Uggs: Shares of the sheepskin boots maker, Deckers Outdoor Corp., tumbled 16 percent Friday to a three-year low because consumers have turned away just before the start of the holiday shopping season.

The company on Thursday slashed its outlook for the rest of the year after its third-quarter profit dropped 31 percent. It blamed two years of price increases for turning shoppers off Uggs, which have been perennial holiday best-sellers, as well as the mild weather this year.

In an effort to lure back shoppers, Deckers said it's going to roll back prices on some Uggs styles in the U.S.
The company now expects profit to drop 14 percent in the October-December quarter, when shoppers come out in droves to make holiday purchases. The Goleta, Calif., company had previously predicted that profit would jump 22 percent in those months.

Some analysts are even more pessimistic than the company, and don't think colder weather this winter will drive up sales.
Sam Poser, an analyst at Sterne Agee, said that "the worst is yet to come." Weaker Uggs sales might not just be due to weather, but may indicate that the boots have fallen out of fashion, he said. Poser expects Deckers to miss its already-lowered guidance for the fourth quarter, and that order cancellations will put "severe pressure" on the company next year.

Stifel Nicolaus analyst Jim Duffy said that Uggs sales may decline even more. Revenue from the brand, Deckers' largest, fell 12 percent in the third quarter. He cut Deckers to "Hold" from "Buy."

Shares of Deckers, which also owns the Teva sport sandal brand, fell $5.82 to $29.67 in morning trading Friday. Shares earlier touched as low as $28.85, the stock's lowest point since November 2009. Even before Friday, shares had already lost more than half their value this year.

Wedding Uggs Have You Heard

      Oh God, No: Wedding Uggs

The myth of the 2012 Apocalypse may have been debunked, but now that Wedding Uggs exist, does it even matter to go on? The world may as well be over.

Can I call a pair of shoes a miscarriage? An abortion? How about an ectopic pregnancy? An ovarian cyst? This is everything bad, painful, or inconvenient that can happen in or around a woman's uterus, but in shoe form. Ironic for footwear that sort of resembles a tampon if you squint and tilt your head just so.

According to the Huffington Post, Ugg's I Do! collection gives ex wives-to-be three options for relaxed yet idiotic footwear for their Big Day. The Sparkles I Do! ($225) are your classic Ugg boots, covered in sparkles that look kind of like iridescent white bugs perched very close together. The Bailey I Do! ($190) is the sort of boot that a 5 year old deep in her princess phase would design for herself and subsequently insist on wearing at all times, even to bed. And the Fluff Flip Flop I Do! gives brides the opportunity to embed their nuptial toejam in a white faux fur thong.

Forget gays, or the Pill, or the Kardashians — these shoes are the single biggest threat to traditional marriage that currently exists. Period. I will fight a war to end these.

These Uggs aren't made for walkin' Are the boots about to mooch off into history?

At last. There is now medical and commercial evidence to suggest that Ugg boots are going out of fashion. The Australian footwear that makes you look like you've got child-bearing ankles and which is – inexplicably – a favourite with otherwise stylish celebrities, is officially a health risk.
The fashion trend that refused to die, despite having the death knell for it sounded as long ago as 2006, may finally be seen off by reports by podiatrists and pharmacists that the sheepskin-lined, structureless bootees cause sprained ankles and raging fungal infections. Hasan Ukra of Boots states that the "moist atmosphere" that Uggs cultivate leads to athlete's foot, while podiatrist Linda Hawkins claims that wearing footwear without any heel or sole support causes ankles to twist more easily.
Certainly, devotees of the Ugg have a trademark walk: a splayed-foot shuffle that, coupled with the almost ubiquitous takeout coffee cup, bears quite a resemblance to a tramp looking for a handout. Even the glossy posse of Sienna Miller and Cameron Diaz can't carry them off with any conviction.
The problem seems to be that sheepskin boots make wonderful slippers – the soft, fluffy interior obviating the need for socks (that's certainly what endeared Australia's drovers and surfers to them decades before they became trendy). And who hasn't dreamt of wearing their slippers all day? But what makes those who sneer at men dressed in sweatpants think that flumpy, comfy bootees are OK to wear down Rodeo Drive or Bond Street? They're just a shuffling step away from "the big slipper", a distinctly unfashionable item traditionally advertised in the back of weekend supplements.
Perhaps Leonardo DiCaprio, one of the growing number of male celebrities who favour Uggs, hasn't leafed through the classified pages recently. He might want to step away from the sheepskin when he realises that his feet may splay to the point at which they can't then be contained in sensible lace-ups, or that this week's supermodel girlfriend doesn't fancy dipping her toes into a bed already occupied by clammy, smelly digits.
Being fashionable often means suffering discomfort, but the payback is usually, er, looking fashionable. Hammer toes and bunions are a small price to pay for a smoothed out and statuesque silhouette – that's why Manolo Blahnik and Christian Louboutin will survive recessions.
Ugg, however, may not. A big pre-Christmas seller, the latest incarnation of the boots retail at £180 from their leading UK stockist, Kate Kuba. However, the company has since called in administrators and closed its nine London shops.
The irony is that with sub-zero temperatures outside, now might just be a permissible time to walk around in Uggs. If you must, just make sure you dry your feet – and watch those wonky kerbstones.

Are Uggs On The Way Out?

London - At last there’s news that the popularity of Uggs, the sheepskin boot of choice for Wags and Towie stars, is waning.
Figures released last week by Uggs’ parent company showed a 31 percent drop in profits.
And although the firm is putting this down to milder weather, sartorial watchers (and men, who put them in their top 10 women’s wardrobe hates) amongst us will be hoping that the vogue for sexless footwarmer-style boots is on the way out.
It was California’s favourite surfer girl Cameron Diaz who brought them to prominence in 2001. In the UK and America they’ve become a yummy mummy uniform, worn around town, out to dinner and even - heaven forfend - under wedding dresses!
But it is not all doom and gloom for the brand.
This season’s leather range is chic and different. Having never owned a pair before I’m hoping to receive the heeled suede Calynda boots for Christmas this year. So there may be life in the old Ugg yet.

UGG AUSTRALIA BOOTS AVAILABLE AT PIONEERS IN NEW HAMPSHIRE

UGG AUSTRALIA BOOTS AVAILABLE AT PIONEERS IN NEW HAMPSHIRE

PIONEERS BOARD SHOP HAS BEEN CARRYING UGG FOR 25 YEARS!
Back when Girls wore their surfer boyfriend’s pair of UGG boots like a letterman jacket.

THE STORY,

In 1978, Brian Smith landed in Southern California with a bag of sheepskin boots and hope. He fell in love with the sheepskin experience and was convinced the world would one day share this love. The beaches of Southern California had long been an epicenter of a relaxed, casual lifestyle, a lifestyle that Brian felt was a perfect fit for his brand. So he founded the UGG brand, began selling his sheepskin boots and they were an immediate sensation. By the mid 1980’s, the UGG brand became a symbol of relaxed southern California culture, gaining momentum through surf shops and other shops up and down the coast of California, from San Diego to Santa Cruz. UGG boots reached beyond the beach, popping up in big cities and small towns all over, and in every level of society. Girls wore their surfer boyfriend’s pair of UGG boots like a letterman jacket. When winter came along, UGG boots were in ski shops and were seen in lodges from Mammoth to Aspen. The UGG brand began to symbolize those who embraced sport and a relaxed, active lifestyle. More than that, an emotional connection and a true feeling of love began to grow for UGG boots, just as Brian had envisioned. People didn’t just like wearing UGG boots, they fell in love with them and literally could not take them off. By the end of the 90’s, celebrities and those in the fashion world took notice of the UGG brand. A cultural shift occurred as well – people were embracing, and feeling empowered, by living a more casual lifestyle and UGG became one of the symbols of this lifestyle. By 2000, a love that began on the beaches had become an icon of casual style. It was at this time that the love for UGG grew in the east, over the Rockies and in Chicago.  From that point on, the world began to notice.

THE MATERIALS, THE CRAFTSMANSHIP:

UGG Australia uses only the finest, most luxurious Twinface sheepskin in the world. Only Grade-A, Twinface sheepskin which is luxuriously soft, dense and malleable need apply. We put each sheepskin through an extensive process to ensure it will provide the signature UGG experience. Both sides of the Twinface are thoroughly examined as each pair of boots requires a large swath of material and even the slightest blemish will be cause for exclusion. We look for uniformity and a flawless, fine-grained texture with no visible defects. On the wool side there has to be an even “stand up” thickness across the entire piece. At six different points in our process we select, re-select and select again against these criteria ensuring only the highest quality sheepskin make it through. The final product is a finished piece of sheepskin worthy of the UGG Australia name.
Bringing out the best in shearling isn’t something that just anyone can do. For over 30 years, UGG has worked with, tested, improved and pushed the limits of this amazing material, and through this, has done more with it than any other designer. Our design team believes in the durability, comfort and style inherent in every piece of sheepskin. Designing and crafting footwear in sheepskin takes a patience and creativity unknown to working with other materials but the results are a distinct style that suits both a casual weekend as well as the runways.

News about UGG Holiday Sales

While warmer weather and higher sheepskin costs crimped profits at Deckers Outdoor Corp. (DECK) this year, Jefferies Group Inc. says that’s also made the seller of UGG brand sheepskin boots and Teva sandals less expensive for acquirers with the stock down 56 percent. The Goleta, California-based company fell last month to its lowest level relative to earnings since 2009 before ending last week at 8.2 times profit. That’s still the cheapest valuation of any U.S. footwear and accessories maker larger than $1 billion, according to data compiled by Bloomberg.
As the leader in luxury winter accessories with the opportunity to expand in handbags and men’s footwear, Deckers would be attractive for private-equity firms and rivals such as VF Corp. (VFC), owner of the North Face and Timberland brands, according to Wedbush Inc. Alternative Investment Management & Research SA said the $1.17 billion company could fetch at least $50 a share, a 51 percent premium to last week’s closing price.
“The UGG brand is an attractive brand, and the company is undervalued relative to the strength of that brand,” Mitch Kummetz, a Denver-based analyst at Robert W. Baird & Co., said in a telephone interview. “It could make sense for someone to come in and make an offer. I could see a strategic buyer being interested and I could see a financial buyer stepping up here as well.”
Thomas George, chief financial officer at Deckers, and Brendon Frey, a company spokesman, didn’t return phone or e-mail messages seeking comment.

Sandal Roots

Deckers, which owns footwear brands from UGG Australia and Teva to Sanuk and Tsubo, was started in 1973 by a university student who made sandals and sold them at craft fairs. More than 87 percent of the company’s $1.38 billion in revenue last year came from the UGG line, which Deckers bought in 1995.
While the stock peaked at $117.66 in October 2011, investors have since lost 72 percent amid Deckers’s slowing sales growth. Chief Executive Officer Angel Martinez said a warmer winter curtailed boot purchases in the first quarter and steeper prices, needed to offset higher raw-material costs, deterred shoppers in the third quarter.
Deckers’s price-earnings ratio dropped on Oct. 31 to 7.1, the lowest since May 2009, according to data compiled by Bloomberg. At 8.2 times earnings last week, it was still the cheapest stock in the U.S. apparel, footwear and accessories design industry with a market capitalization larger than $1 billion, the data show.

‘Distressed Multiples’

While analysts project Deckers’s revenue growth will slow to 3.8 percent this year after a 38 percent jump in 2011, it’s still trading at the industry’s second-biggest discount to estimated revenue, data compiled by Bloomberg show. Deckers’s price-sales ratio of 0.8 compares with the median of 1.3 for the 21 companies in the industry group, based on projected revenue for the current fiscal year, the data show.
“It’s trading at distressed multiples,” Corinna Freedman, a New York-based analyst for Wedbush, said in a phone interview. “We feel like this is the bottom in the stock. We don’t think that sentiment can get much worse.”
Jefferies analyst Randal Konik said the low valuation has created an opportunity for private-equity firms as well as buyers from within the industry. After consumer deals were struck earlier this year, including Apax Partners’s agreement to buy Cole Haan from Nike Inc. and Starbucks Corp.’s bid for Teavana Holdings Inc., Deckers may be next, he said.
“We see significant upside in coming quarters due to improving performance of the UGG brand, which we think is far from dead,” the New York-based analyst wrote in a note to clients Nov. 16. He has a share-price estimate of $50 for Deckers, which ended last week at $33.08.
Today, Deckers shares gained 6.6 percent to $35.25, the biggest advance in the Standard & Poor’s 400 MidCap Index.

Growth Potential

Deckers offers suitors the chance to snap up name-brand footwear that still has significant growth potential, despite recent challenges, according to Baird’s Kummetz.
“The market right now underappreciates the UGG brand,” Kummetz said. A buyer could “take advantage of that disconnect.”
With less than a third of Deckers’s sales coming from outside the U.S., an industry buyer that already has global distribution platforms could broaden Deckers’s reach, he said.
There are further expansion opportunities in men’s shoes, handbags and lower-priced lines, which could help offset weakness in traditional boot sales, said Wedbush’s Freedman. Deckers also plans to add an additional 30 locations in 2013, George, the company’s CFO, said on its earnings call Oct. 25.
“They’re increasing their store base and they’re expanding into a few new categories,” Freedman said. “That could increase their volumes.”

Overlooked Brands

The growth prospects of Deckers’s other brands, including Teva sport sandals, are often overlooked, according to Elizabeth Jones, a Shawnee Mission, Kansas-based analyst at Kornitzer Capital Management Inc., which oversees $6.5 billion and owns Deckers shares.
“There’s definitely value there in the Teva brand that I don’t think has been realized to its full potential at this point,” Jones said in a phone interview. “It’s well-positioned as there’s a trend in this country for people to be more active and healthy.”
Deckers may appeal to other owners of apparel and footwear lines such as Greensboro, North Carolina-based VF, or private- equity firms, said Jones and Wedbush’s Freedman. The company’s cash balance adds to the appeal, said Freedman, who projects Deckers will end the year with $5 a share in cash.
VF owns everything from the surf-inspired Reef brand to North Face winter gear. Last year it paid about $2 billion to acquire Timberland, the maker of hiking boots and outdoor clothing.

Building Value

Cindy Knoebel, a spokeswoman for VF, said the company’s policy is to not comment on acquisition speculation or targets, when asked whether it’s interested in buying Deckers.
“We have said publicly that we are interested in continuing to make acquisitions to build value for our shareholders, and that our interest lies primarily in the outdoor and action sports categories,” Knoebel said last week in an e-mailed statement.
Other bidders for Deckers may include sneaker-maker Skechers U.S.A. Inc. (SKX) and PPR (PP) SA, according to Albert Saporta, managing director at Alternative Investment Management in Geneva. PPR acquired Volcom Inc. in 2011 and a controlling stake in Puma SE in 2007 to add to a luxury-goods lineup that includes the Gucci and Bottega Veneta brands.
Jennifer Clay, a spokeswoman for Manhattan Beach, California-based Skechers, didn’t respond to phone or e-mail messages seeking comment. Helene Saint-Raymond, a spokeswoman for Paris-based PPR, declined to comment on whether the company would be interested in buying Deckers.

Holiday Sales

Potential acquirers may hold off on bidding for Deckers until there’s more proof of the UGG brand’s sustainability, according to Sam Poser, a New York-based analyst at Sterne Agee & Leach Inc. UGG sales in the weeks spanning Black Friday --the day after the U.S. Thanksgiving holiday and the unofficial start to the holiday shopping season -- through the end of the year should provide “better visibility” on inventory levels and earnings power, he said.
“If it’s going to happen, it’s not going to happen until people know exactly how healthy the brand is,” Poser said in a phone interview. Until “we see the whole thing play out this holiday season, I don’t think anybody’s crystal ball is that good.”

Opportune Time

Still, analysts on average estimate the stock will climb 23 percent to $40.80 in the next 12 months, data compiled by Bloomberg show. Wedbush’s Freedman said a buyer would probably have to bid more than her $38 share-price estimate, while Alternative Investment Management’s Saporta said Deckers may fetch $50 to $55 a share in a takeover.
Given Deckers’s growth prospects, and with it trading at such a low valuation, this could be the ideal time for buyers to step in with an offer, said Kornitzer’s Jones.
“As long-term investors, we’re willing to ride through these tough periods and buy companies at attractive valuations and then when these issues resolve, obviously we should get a decent return,” she said. “And because we think there’s opportunity for a good return, we would think others might think that as well.”

Ugg Buying Tips

Ugg buying tips:

When is an Ugg not an Ugg?
This deals note looks at how to get the cheapest genuine UGG® Australia boots. Yet in Australia, the word Ugg is a generic term for sheepskin boots; Aussie folk have been making Ugg-style sheepskin boots for over a century.
When people talk about ‘Uggs’ here in the UK, they’re often referring to the “UGG® Australia” brand made by a firm called Deckers - the ones all the celebs sport. Due to the popularity of Uggs, the internet is awash with dodgy sites and eBay sellers, selling knock-off Ugg Australias. These cheapo versions are usually lined with synthetic, rather than real sheepskin. All the sites in this note have been checked out and have good feedback from MoneySavers.
There are other legit brands out there though. If you’re not fussed about the posh logo, MoneySavers have given feedback that alternative brands, such as Kiwi Sheepskins, can be just as snug and comfy as Ugg Australia. Kiwi Sheepskins start from £50 inc delivery.
How to check that boots are genuine Ugg Australia
The famous Ugg Australia brand is made by Deckers. If that's what, you're after there are ways to spot imposters.
- Ugg Australia boots have a large middle G on the logo.
- They have real sheepskin fur inside: fakes often use synthetic.
- They are made in New Zealand, Australia, and more recently, China.
- If you want to check that a retailer is legit, email Deckers at info@uggaustralia.com and ask if that retailer is licensed to sell Ugg Australias.
- Alternatively, you can check the on the official Uggs website to see if the the website you're thinking about buying your boots from is on its legitimate online retailer list.
There's an interesting explanation of the history of the Ugg trademark on Wikipedia.
  Paying for goods from overseas
Using the right piece of plastic is the cheapest way to pay for goods from overseas sites, but make sure it's the right plastic; read the Spending Overseas article for details.
Credit cards are better than debit cards!
Spend on your credit card and you have more rights than you do on a debit card. This is all about Section 75 of the Consumer Credit Act which makes the card provider jointly liable with the retailer if anything should go pear-shaped.
Pay for goods over £100 fully or partially on your credit card and if something goes wrong, you can simply make a claim directly against the card provider without having to contact the retailer at all. This counts for overseas purchases too. Read a full guide to Section 75 Protection.
  What size to buy?
Finally, US shoe sizes differ to UK sizes. Use an Online Converter to check before you buy.
